Gifford is a planned estate village at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills, laid out to serve the nearby Yester estate after the old village was cleared for the big house. It’s a tidy place of a wide main street and a mercat cross, with the Goblin Ha’ Hotel on the corner and good walking straight into the hills. No railway close by, so you’ll want a car.
