The painter Stanley Spencer was born in Cookham and set much of his work along its riverbank and in its churchyard, casting biblical scenes among the villagers he knew. A gallery on the high street, in a former Methodist chapel, shows his paintings and drawings. The Thames path and Cookham Moor are both on the doorstep for a walk afterwards.
