Chilham stands on a hill at the head of the Stour gap, built around a square between a Jacobean manor house and a flint church, with timbered cottages all around. It has appeared in a good few period films and can get busy on summer weekends. Chilham station is about 1km east, on the Ashford–Canterbury line.
