A crown cut into the down above Wye in 1902 for the coronation of Edward VII, and still lit for royal occasions.
Students of Wye College cut this crown into the hillside above the village in 1902, for the coronation of Edward VII. They began a tradition of outlining it with lights for coronations and jubilees that continues today. It sits on the Kent Downs; the county’s memorial crosses at Lenham and Shoreham came two decades later, for sadder reasons.
