Lenham Cross
Local highlightA broad chalk cross cut into the North Downs above Lenham in 1922, a memorial to the village's war dead.
Villagers cut this cross into the scarp of the Kent Downs in 1922, to remember the men of Lenham killed in the First World War. During the Second World War it was turfed over so enemy aircraft could not use it as a landmark, then cleared again afterwards. The memorial Shoreham cross stands on the same downs to the north-west.
