Charing is a Pilgrims’ Way village at the foot of the Downs, with the ruins of a medieval palace of the archbishops of Canterbury beside the parish church. The old buildings run along a street just off the main road. Charing station is about half a kilometre south-west, on the Ashford–Maidstone line.
