This stretch of the Lewis west coast packs a lot in. Carloway is the base for Dun Carloway, one of Scotland’s best-preserved Iron Age brochs, with the restored Gearrannan blackhouse village and the beaches at Dalmore and Dalbeg all close by. It’s off the A858, down single-track spurs to the coast — an easy afternoon’s exploring as you work your way round the island.
