Carbost is a strung-out crofting village on the shore of Loch Harport, best known as the home of Talisker, Skye’s oldest working distillery, founded here in 1830. The visitor centre pulls in around 50,000 people a year for tours and tastings, so it’s worth booking ahead in season. Like the rest of Skye it’s reached by road over the bridge, then a long winding drive out on the B8009.
