Barton sits on the south bank of the Humber, right below the great bridge. Its Saxon landmark is St Peter’s, built around 970 and, in 1819, the first building in England to be identified as Anglo-Saxon; English Heritage now runs it as a museum. Down at the water, the Waters’ Edge park looks across the estuary to the bridge. The station is a few minutes’ walk from the centre.
