St Peter’s, close under the Humber Bridge, has a tower built about 970 that in 1819 became the first building in England ever identified as Anglo-Saxon. It began as a turriform church, the tower itself serving as the nave. Made redundant in 1972, it’s now looked after by English Heritage and open as a heritage site, with the long story of its excavation set out inside. The town of Barton-upon-Humber sits alongside, and the station is under 1km away.
