Britain’s longest standard-gauge heritage railway runs steam trains some twenty miles from Bishops Lydeard, along the edge of the Quantocks and out to the sea at Minehead. The line closed in 1971 and was reopened by volunteers five years later. Services run to a timetable through much of the year, and tickets are needed. Bishops Lydeard station, on the line itself, is the place to join.
