The carved bench ends here, dated 1534, are the reason to come: one shows two naked men battling a two-headed dragon, the local Gurt Worm, alongside green men, foliage and birds. It’s a Grade I church at the foot of the Quantocks in Crowcombe village, open to visitors. Handy too if you’re riding the West Somerset Railway, which stops close by.
