Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

The folly known as Old John crowns the highest ground in Bradgate Park, a stubby stone tower with an arched buttress that reads as a beer mug in silhouette. It was raised in 1784 for the Earl of Stamford and sits at around 210m, so it shows up on the skyline for miles across Charnwood. A short pull uphill from the park’s paths brings you to it, and the view opens out in every direction.
