The Horseshoe Pass — Bwlch yr Oernant, the pass of the cold stream — carries the A542 in a long curl over the shoulder of Llantysilio Mountain north of Llangollen. There’s a cafe near the top and wide moorland views on both sides, and the road is a well-known run for motorcyclists and cyclists. It can close when snow settles in winter.
