Come in July for the lavender: rows of it run up a chalk slope at Cadwell Farm, Ickleford, just north of Hitchin, with a sunflower field taking over into August. You pay to go in and can cut your own to take home. The farm has grown lavender here since 2000. It opens roughly from late June to early August, and Hitchin station is under 3km to the south.
