A clearing at the forest edge above Newnham on Severn opens onto one of the finest views of the Severn’s great horseshoe bend, the river doubling back on itself far below. It’s on the edge of the Forest of Dean, reached by forest tracks and lanes, with a small parking area close by. Open access and free, and quiet outside summer weekends.
