Fourteen acres of moss-grown scowles — deep, ferny clefts left by ancient iron workings — threaded with winding paths and little wooden bridges. Film crews love it: Star Wars, Merlin and Doctor Who have all shot here. Paid entry, open most of the year, with a maze and animals for younger visitors. It’s near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, an easy pairing with Clearwell Caves.
