The George Hotel has one of Argyll’s best old bars, with flagstone floors, roaring fires and local ales, in the middle of Georgian Inveraray on Loch Fyne. It’s a fine stop for a drink or a meal while visiting the planned town and its castle. Inveraray is on the A83 about an hour from Loch Lomond; there’s no train, so drive.
