One of a rare handful of British pubs with no bar counter, where cider and ale are drawn straight from a flagstoned tap room and carried through to a cluster of cosy parlours. Family-run for generations, it is known to everyone locally as Eli’s. It stands beside the soaring tower of St Mary’s church, and close to the ruined cloisters of Muchelney Abbey a little to the south.
