If you’re after a wander rather than a ticket, Sharpham House itself is off-limits most of the year — the Grade I-listed Palladian villa above the Dart is run by the Sharpham Trust as a mindfulness and meditation retreat centre. It opens its grounds to everyone for an open day and bioblitz each summer, and public footpaths skirt the south and west of the estate at any time, through orchards and woodland with views down to the river. The Trust’s vineyard, Sandridge Barton, sits a little further along the estate and is easier to just turn up to.
