Bath Spa University’s main campus sits inside a Capability Brown landscape, laid out around 1761 for Joseph Langton, complete with a lake, parkland trees and the ruined keep of Newton St Loe Castle tucked among the trees. It’s a working campus rather than a visitor attraction, so general wandering isn’t really the done thing, but the grounds and the Grade I house open up for a Heritage Open Days weekend each September, and prospective students can join guided campus tours through the year. The Kennet & Avon Canal passes close by to the northeast.
