One of Scotland’s great tree gardens, Dawyck is an outpost of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, spread over 25 hectares of the upper Tweed valley near Stobo. Towering Douglas firs and other conifers, some grown from historic plant-hunting expeditions, rise over hillside walks, with rhododendrons in spring and famous drifts of snowdrops in late winter. Open February to November with an admission charge; it’s about 13km south-west of Peebles.
