Cranborne Manor began as a royal hunting lodge on the edge of Cranborne Chase and was remodelled into a Jacobean house by the Cecil family, who still hold it. The gardens keep an old bones of walled enclosures, topiary, yew walks and orchards, with a garden centre alongside. Opening is limited to selected days, so it pays to check the calendar. Paid entry; a fair drive from any station, with Salisbury about 19km to the north-east.
