Clevedon Court
Open to visitorsa National Trust place — check opening times and admission before you go
Clevedon Court is a rare survivor: a manor house built around 1320, with its medieval hall, chapel and screens passage still legible. Behind it rise eighteenth-century terraces cut into the hillside, which Gertrude Jekyll called one of the noblest ranges of terraced walls in England. The Elton family held it for two centuries — Thackeray was a guest — before giving it to the National Trust. Limited opening; Yatton station is about 6km south.
