Cawdor Castle is the turreted, storybook seat of the Thanes of Cawdor, famous (if historically inaccurately) for its link to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The gardens are the real draw: a Walled Garden first planted in the 17th century, an 18th-century Flower Garden, and a Wild Garden added in the 1960s, with woodland nature trails through the grounds. Castle and gardens open roughly May to October for an admission charge. The old kirk stands in the village nearby, and Nairn station is about 7km to the north-east.
