Cannon Hall is a Georgian country house near Cawthorne, set in seventy acres of parkland, lakes and a restored walled garden that’s lovely in blossom season. Barnsley Council has run it as a free country park and museum since the 1950s, and the separately run Cannon Hall Farm — a popular children’s farm — sits alongside. Parkland is free; the house and farm charge. Darton station is about 4km off, though it’s really a place you drive to.
