Battersea Park was laid out from 1854 on reclaimed Thames marshland, designed by James Pennethorne and formally opened by Queen Victoria in 1858. It’s a classic Victorian pleasure ground: a boating lake, the old pump house turned into a gallery, and the London Peace Pagoda on the riverbank, added in 1985. Free to walk in any time, with gates open from early morning to late evening. The Thames Path runs along its northern edge.
