One of the smallest of London’s Royal Parks, Green Park runs between Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly with nothing more than mature trees, open grass and deckchairs — no lake, no flower beds, unlike its grander neighbours. It dates back to Charles II, who walled off the land in 1660 so he could stroll between Hyde Park and St James’s Park on royal ground. Free to walk through any time, gates open 5am to midnight, with Green Park tube station right on its edge.
