Alexandra Road Park is the green spine of the Alexandra and Ainsworth Estate, a celebrated stretch of 1970s council housing in South Hampstead. Landscape architect Janet Jack laid it out between 1972 and 1978 as a linear run of raised beds, sunken lawns and diagonal paths — deliberately dramatic for a public park, with ridges and hollows rather than flat grass. A Heritage Lottery-funded restoration finished in 2015 brought back three playgrounds and a woodland walk. Free and open through daylight hours, tucked between Abbey Road and Loudoun Road a short walk from Regent’s Canal.
