In a wing of Traquair House — claimed as Scotland’s oldest inhabited house — sits an 18th-century brewhouse that had lain forgotten until it was rediscovered and revived in 1965. It still brews strong traditional ales, among them the well-known Jacobite Ale, in old oak vessels, and you can visit as part of a house ticket. Try the results a mile off at the Traquair Arms in Innerleithen.
