Tiny church on a volcanic hilltop.
St Michael de Rupe is one of the smallest parish churches in England — about 11 metres long — and among the most exposed, planted on the summit of Brent Tor, an old volcanic outcrop on Dartmoor’s western edge. It was founded around 1130; the walk up is short but steep, and the views run for miles over west Devon and into Cornwall. Open in daylight hours. Gunnislake, the nearest station, is around 10km south-west.
