Humphry Repton laid out these 108 acres above the Tamar valley in 1814, working from the “Red Book” he prepared for the Duke and Duchess of Bedford, who wanted a fishing lodge rather than a grand house. Its grounds of streams, cascades and follies survive intact, and the cottage orné itself is now Hotel Endsleigh. Non-residents can pay to walk the garden, open daily until dusk. Gunnislake station is about 8.5km south-east.
