St Helen's, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
St Helen’s sits beside the castle ruins in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and the two share a builder: Lord Hastings rebuilt the church in the 1470s at the same time he was turning his manor house into a castle. Inside, look for the finger pillory near the west end, a rare wooden device that trapped a wrongdoer’s fingers as a mild public punishment. The Hastings family chapel and its monuments run alongside. Open to visitors.
