This whitewashed Baptist chapel at Cefncymerau, in the hills above Llanbedr, is the one Sydney Curnow Vosper painted in 1908. His picture ‘Salem’ — a shawled old woman arriving late for the service — became one of the best-loved Welsh images of its day. The chapel itself is still here, plain and quiet up a narrow lane. Llanbedr station is about half a kilometre off.
