A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Lancashire. It is one of three motte-and-bailey castles the Albion Guide lists in the county. For more of the same, Castle Stede motte and Castle Hill motte (North Yorkshire) are close by. For arrivals by rail, Wennington Station is 3.4 km to the south-east.
