The pull here is the chalk — a sandy beach on the Thanet coast north of Broadstairs, with white chalk stacks standing out of the sand and low chalk cliffs behind. At low tide you can walk out to the stacks, work the rock pools and duck into the caves worn into the cliff base; as the tide turns it can cut you off against the cliffs, so keep an eye on it. The sand is clean and gently shelving, which makes it an easy swimming and family beach in summer. The clifftop King Charles III England Coast Path links Botany Bay to the string of bays either side, with Kingsgate Bay next along to the south-east.
