Turner Contemporary is a stark white-and-glass art gallery on the Margate seafront, designed by David Chipperfield and opened in 2011. It stands on the spot where J.M.W. Turner used to lodge on his visits to paint the Thanet skies. Entry is free, and it’s closed on Mondays. Margate station is about 1km to the south-west.
