Barony Mill at Birsay is the last working watermill in Orkney still grinding bere, an ancient six-row barley, into beremeal. The waterwheel and stones are all in their original 19th-century order, and in season you can go round on a tour to see them turning and buy a bag of meal to take home. It sits just inland from the coast at Birsay, near Marwick Head.
