Wymondham’s market cross is an octagonal timber room raised on stout wooden legs, built in 1617 to keep the town’s records clear of flood and vermin. Above the town stand the twin towers of the abbey, the result of a long medieval quarrel between the monks and the parish, who ended up worshipping at opposite ends of the same church. The station is a short way north-west.
