Swaffham keeps alive the legend of the Pedlar, a tinker said to have dreamed of treasure and, following the dream to London Bridge and back, found it buried in his own garden — and paid to rebuild the church with it. The town spreads around a triangular market place with a domed Georgian market cross at its heart, and its parish church is one of the grandest in this part of Norfolk.
