A thatched round-tower church of Saxon origin in a quiet Breckland village, St Mary’s was gutted by fire in 2022. The thousand-year-old tower survived, and the church has since been re-roofed and re-thatched. Worth checking locally that it’s open before making a special trip. It sits south-west of Swaffham; Downham Market station is about 15km west.
