Reigate is an old town below the North Downs escarpment. The mound of its vanished castle survives as a public garden, with a curious 19th-century tunnel dug beneath the high street close by, and Priory Park spreads south from a Tudor mansion. Reigate Heath Windmill, said to be the only church housed in a windmill in the country, stands on the common to the west. Reigate station is on the Reading–Redhill line.
