Reeth is the natural hub of Swaledale, its pubs, cafés, shops and small folk museum ranged around a broad green that slopes toward the meeting of the Swale and Arkengarthdale. It’s a favourite Coast to Coast overnight and a good base for the lead-mining walks up the side gills. Grinton sits just across the river, and Langthwaite lies up Arkengarthdale to the north.
