Prestonpans is best remembered for the 1745 battle where a Jacobite army routed government troops in a matter of minutes, an early win for Bonnie Prince Charlie; a cairn and battlefield trail mark the ground today. The town also has a run of community murals and the 17th-century Preston Cross and Tower. Prestonpans station is about 1km south-west.
