Penmachno is a quiet former slate village in a wooded valley south of Betws-y-Coed. Nearby stand the early Christian Penmachno stones and Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, the farmhouse birthplace of William Morgan, who first translated the whole Bible into Welsh in 1588.
