Dolwyddelan lies along the Afon Lledr under Moel Siabod, gathered round its slate quarry and station. The castle on the ridge above — a square Welsh keep rather than a Norman one — is traditionally said to be where Llywelyn the Great was born. The station is on the Conwy Valley line.
