Mortehoe is a small village of slate cottages on the headland above Woolacombe’s big surf beach. The draw is the coast path around Morte Point, where reefs of slate reach out into the sea — a stretch that wrecked several ships in a single stormy winter in the 1850s. Woolacombe’s sands are a short walk or drive down the hill.
