Hartington is a White Peak village around a market square and a duck pond, near the head of Dovedale where the Dove starts to cut its dales. It was long a centre of Derbyshire cheese-making, and a creamery here produced Stilton through much of the 20th century; a village cheese shop carries on the trade today. Buxton is the nearest station, about 15km to the north-west.
