Vast cave mouth high above the Manifold valley.
Thor’s Cave opens as a great symmetrical arch, some sixty feet high, punched through a limestone crag high above the Manifold valley. People have used it since the Stone Age, and Victorian antiquarians dug bones and tools from its floor; today it’s a landmark on the Manifold Way below. Reaching the mouth means a steep stepped climb, and the rock at the entrance is worn glass-slick and treacherous when wet, so it’s worth decent footwear and care.
