The Yew Tree at Cauldon is less a pub than a working collection you can drink in: penny-farthings, grandfather clocks, guns and a set of restored polyphons — Victorian music machines — crammed into a moorlands freehouse behind a towering yew. It’s regularly named among England’s oddest pubs, and stands not far from Alton and its towers. Blythe Bridge station is about 14km south-west.
